The Blepharoplasty Procedure

Before your surgery, anesthesia will be administered to keep you comfortable during surgery. The upper blepharoplasty procedure begins with an incision made in the upper eyelid’s natural crease, which can help conceal any scarring. Excess fat, muscle, and skin are then trimmed away from the eyelid. Lower eyelid fat is removed through an incision on the inside of the eyelid. This may be combined with the excision of a pinch of skin just under the eyelashes or possibly with laser resurfacing or a chemical peel of the periorbital skin. This outpatient procedure, which typically takes one to three hours, is considered permanent in many cases (although it will not prevent natural aging).

Your Blepharoplasty Recovery

After your eyelid surgery, you will be asked to recover at home. This period may last a few days and up to a week, though it can vary from person to person. You may also be asked to refrain from strenuous activities for a bit longer. Following surgery, side effects such as dry eyes, swelling, bruising, and sensitivity to light may occur, but they should fade within ten days. You will also not be able to wear contacts during your recovery, so ensure you have glasses available to wear.
